The following is a true-to-life scenario described by a doctor. It reflects an all-too-frequent problem.

THE whole family was worried. Now even the doctor was too. “If his bleeding doesn’t stop soon,” the doctor said, “we may have to consider a blood transfusion.”

The man had been slowly losing blood through his bowels for several weeks, and the problem had been diagnosed as inflammation of the stomach, or gastritis. “Are you sure you’re not taking any medications?” asked the frustrated doctor.

“No. Only this natural over-the-counter stuff for my arthritis,” said the man.

Suddenly the doctor pricked up his ears. “Let me see it.” Carefully searching the ingredient label, he found what he was looking for. Acetylsalicylic acid! Problem solved. When the patient stopped taking the aspirin-containing compound and was given iron and some stomach-healing medicine, the bleeding stopped and his blood count slowly returned to normal.

In 1995 the Harvard Health Letter reported that “routine aspirin use saves lives.” Citing several worldwide studies, which have been repeated many times since then, researchers concluded: “Nearly everyone who has ever had a heart attack or stroke, suffers from angina, or has undergone coronary artery bypass surgery should take one-half to one aspirin tablet daily unless they are allergic to the drug.”

With all these presumed benefits of aspirin, why doesn’t everyone take it? For one thing, there is still much that is not known. Even the ideal dosage is unclear. Recommendations range from one standard tablet twice daily to as little as one baby aspirin every other day. Should the dosage for women be different from that for men? Doctors are not sure. While enteric-coated aspirin may be considered somewhat helpful, the advantage of buffered aspirin is still controversial.

Reasons for Caution

Though technically aspirin is a natural substance—American Indians obtained components of aspirin from the bark of a willow tree—it has many side effects. Besides the fact that it causes bleeding problems in some people, there are many other potential complications with aspirin, including allergic reactions in aspirin-sensitive people. Needless to say, daily aspirin usage is not for everyone.

A person who is at risk for heart attack or stroke or who has significant risk factors, however, may want to ask his or her doctor about the risks and benefits of daily aspirin use. Certainly the patient would want to make sure he or she has no bleeding problems, no aspirin intolerance, and no stomach or gastrointestinal problems. Other potential problems or medication interactions should be reviewed with the physician prior to beginning therapy.

As noted before, aspirin and aspirinlike medications carry the significant risk of bleeding. And that bleeding may be subtle, not immediately apparent, and slowly cumulative over time. Other medications too need to be considered with care, particularly other anti-inflammatory medicines. Be sure to inform your physician if you are using any of them. In most cases it would be wise to discontinue the medication prior to surgery. Perhaps even regular laboratory monitoring of blood levels would be helpful.

Polarising Filters: Why You Should Have One (And Know How To Use It).

In nature photography, filters are a must for some photographers and an absolute no-no for others. Some photographers insist that everything must be captured exactly as it was in nature, while others love the effects and enhancements they can get from a variety of filters.

I fall somewhere between the two camps. I always try to capture my subject in natural light without artificial effects…but sometimes conditions prevent me getting the shot I need without a little help. That’s why I have exactly one filter in my camera: a polarising filter.

A polariser is not much different to polarised sunglasses. It does not colour the photo, but it reduces glare and reflection. As a result, natural colours can appear stronger and more vibrant in your photos. The most obvious place this can be seen is in the sky, where a hazy sky can become a rich, saturated blue.

The difference between using the polariser and a blue filter, is that the polariser uses the natural colour of the sky, while the coloured filter adds artificial colour. A blue filter, for example would also turn white clouds a shade of blue, whereas the polariser leaves the clouds clear and white.

The polarising filter also increases the contrast between the sky and the clouds, making the cloud formation stand out more clearly against the background. An attractive cloud formation can be enriched to become a feature of real impact in your photo.

Polarising filters can be rotated on the lens to adjust the level of polarisation. It is important to practice with your polariser to get the most natural effects.

A polarising filter in the hands of an inexperienced photographer can be a frightening thing. You see, at maximum polarisation, the filter can produce some fairly extreme effects. The contrast in the sky can be so strong that some areas will become navy blue, even black. The saturation of other colours in the photo can also be exaggerated beyond recognition. These effects certainly add power and impact to a photo, but they can go far beyond any sense of the natural.

The trick with a polarising filter is to find a level that reduces the glare and provides a nice saturation of colour, while maintaining a natural appearance. This is a simple matter of rotating the filter on the camera until you find the right level, and with experience you will get the hang of it.

There is a lot more to a polarising filter than just colourful skies. Eliminating glare and reflection can be an enormous benefit in all kinds of situations; even in the places you least expect.

One situation that might surprise you is in the rainforest. On a cloudy day under the canopy of the trees, you would not expect glare to be a problem. But there can be a lot of reflection off the glossy leaves of the rainforest vegetaion, and a polarising filter can reduce it significantly. The result will be a more saturated green throughout your photo. Just like in the sky, the effect is not the same as simply using a coloured filter; the polariser does not add artificial colour, it enhances the clarity of the natural colour.

Of course the elimination of reflections can also transform any photo of water, and shiny surfaces like the glass walls of a high-rise building. With practice, you will find all kinds of ways to employ your polarising filter.

There are some drawbacks. The filter will darken your exposures, so you will often have to use slower shutter speeds than you would otherwise (and keep your tripod handy). The effects of the filter also vary depending on the time of day and your angle to the sun. There are plenty of situations where you will simply be better off without it.

I recommend adding a polarising filter to your DSLR kit bag. You won’t use it all the time. With expereince, you will learn to judge when to use it and when to leave it in the bag, but your photography will be richer for having a polarising filter handy when the situation calls for it.

————————

A dream wedding almost always is synonymous to destination wedding. It is indeed a dream come true if you plan to go for that kind of wedding. And while you’re at it, why don’t you make sure that your dream wedding memories are perfectly captured on photos for posterity? Sitting on the sofa, it doesn’t hurt a married relationship later to reminisce together all those lovely photos in your wedding. And yes, it was a damn dream wedding!

A destination wedding can be the ultimate in a custom wedding ceremony which is as unique as the couple to be wed. A destination wedding is something truly special - an occasion which will never be forgotten by your guests and will create a joyous experience for all present, especially the bride and groom. A destination wedding brings that once-daydream of a fairytale wedding to life.

So what exactly is a destination wedding? Simply put, it’s the ultimate way to make that special event even more special. You and your would-be spouse and your family and guests travel to that perfect location where you’ve always dreamed of getting married. Anywhere you really want to do and have that wedding — it’s only limited by your imagination. But who will you trust to take the special photos in your dream wedding? Enter the scene now is the destination wedding photographer. But how will you find the right one? You will need to take some time to do your research when you are going to choose your destination wedding photographer. You have been spending months on your wedding planning, and you would like to make your wedding the most memorable and unique one in the world. To this end it is really important for you to capture all the happy moments in your wedding so you really have to be sure that you have good hands in the photographer. It is in the photographer’s hands which will determine all the lovely wedding moments are captured rightly and well. This is why the job of the photographer is of utmost important at this stage. It can’t be stressed enough that this is a dream wedding of you and your partner.

When you are still looking for your wedding photographer, you should try to choose a really experienced one. The photographer should have experiences in taking wedding photos and specifically big events like destination wedding. You should check the portfolio of the photographer in order to get more information of his previous projects. You have to bear in mind that no matter how attractive the offer by the photographer is, you should not hire him for the sake of just getting discount and bonus offers. The quality of your photos should be what’s on the priority list. Now, that’s not saying that you should try to look for bargains and discounts after you found the perfect photographer.

The photographer’s style is also an essential thing you need to consider. You should try to learn the style of the photographer. Again you will need to take a look at his portfolio. You should make sure that you love the style of the photographer. The choice here is very personal and you can make your own decision merely by your taste and preference.

Always remember that you may be wed only once so take the extra steps and go for your dream wedding and hire a skilled photographer to capture your amazing moments there.

Are you making the progress you want as you pursue your goals? Do you know why? Have you been doing the activities over and over again, activities that are supposed to work or that used to work but without making any real progress? Maybe something needs to change!

Now, you’re probably thinking “Change? Of course something needs to change; I’m not making the progress I should be making! But, I’m doing the right things, they’re just not working.” Let’s look at three possible reasons why your activities aren’t producing the results you want…and let’s assume that there’s nothing really wrong with the things you’re doing.

The World has Changed, You Haven’t

That sounds pretty harsh, but it’s not meant to be. If your work requires that you make presentations to prospects on a regular basis and you’re setting appointments and presenting information the same way you did five years ago, you might be out-of-date! You might be finding that your prospects resist setting time to meet. They don’t want to come to a meeting. Their schedules are tight and you just don’t fit in.

Welcome to the new world! You still need to get the information in front of the prospect but maybe you haven’t explored the new tools that would help you. In today’s internet world there are ways to meet that didn’t exist ten years ago and didn’t work very well a mere five years ago. You might be able to meet with more prospects by using the internet to make your presentations while you’re in your office and they’re in theirs. You’ll still be doing the same activities, but in a new and different way.

Check out the new tools that are available to you, they might hold the secret to achieving your goals!

The Activities Haven’t Changed, But They Bore You

Sometimes the activities you’re using are still valid but they’re not working for you. Perhaps you see other people pursuing similar goals who use the same activities but with more success. That can get frustrating in a hurry!

Let’s face it; doing the same things month after month (or year after year) can get boring. We’re human beings. We need some changes to keep ourselves interested and feeling like we’re learning and making progress. We get bored when we keep doing the same things day after day, month after month. And, when we get bored with what we’re doing, the results usually show it.

What’s the solution? Examine the actions you’re taking to reach your goals. The actions probably are meant to achieve results that will lead you to your real goal. The results of the actions are not the goal, they’re just necessary to move you down the road.

It’s very possible that you can adjust your activities to get those necessary results. Give it some thought, talk to your mentor, and see if there are some different techniques that you could use.

Making this kind of change can revitalize your interest and your excitement. You won’t be just going through the same old motions, and the change will probably be reflected in the results.

Your Goal Has Changed, Your Activities Haven’t

Does your goal still excite you? Are you pursuing a goal that was important to you but now it doesn’t have the same appeal? It might be time for a serious reevaluation of your goal.

We often set goals because achieving them will provide a change in our life that we really want. You might be pursuing a goal that would allow you to make that change. Your “goal” is not really the real goal; it’s a method to achieve the real goal. It’s pretty easy to focus so hard on your “goal” that you lose sight of the outcome you really want to achieve.

What now? If that outcome is still what you want, you might need to reexamine what vehicle is the best to take you there. Do this carefully; you’ve already invested work in pursuing your current goal. You don’t want to throw away progress you’ve already made. But, perhaps adjustment in the “vehicle” is needed.

Remember to keep the true goal in sight and use the best means possible (the best for YOU) to get there.

Don’t Give Up!

Most of all, don’t give up! Keep your focus on your true goal and make the changes needed to keep you progressing toward it. Delays are not denials, persistence will take you to your goal, and making the right changes can improve your rate of progress!

————————

I’m a husband, father, and grandfather. Through work in product development and marketing I’ve learned that goals are achieved with a good plan, focused effort, and commitment. Humans are designed to be achievers. Visualizing the future and achieving goals to make it a reality is uniquely human! I’m still dreaming my future into existence and setting goals to make it happen. Get my free CHANGE report today! Go to

“WHAT is the matter with him? He should know better,” remarks an observer. Shaking his head in disbelief, another walks away muttering, “If he had a little common sense, he would never have done that.” Have you perhaps heard similar comments? What, though, is “common sense”?

The word “sense” is defined as “accurate appreciation,” “understanding,” and “practical wisdom or judgement.” It implies that a person has the ability to judge and decide with intelligence. Common sense evidently requires that we use thinking ability. Many people would rather let others do their thinking for them. They allow the media, their peers, or popular opinion to make decisions for them.

Common sense seems to be so lacking in today’s world that an observant man once noted, ‘Common sense, in truth, is very uncommon.’
